I go to nytimes.com and there's an
article about the Today Show bull pin man!!!!!
His name is Linny Boyette. And he's been doing this for 12 years.
Holy shit.
I'm in shock.
My week has been made.

Where's Waldo??
Every time I watch the Today Show (and I watch it everyday), I spot this random Black man who often scores a spot up front in the human bull pin. The camera swoops past him every time. And every time I say: that man is always out there.
He's there for every weekend show, too.
When the camera swoops by, he isn't holding a sign. He isn't smiling. He isn't screaming. He's just standing there wearing dark shades and chewing gum. He's a unique looking gentlemen and sticks out especially when he's surrounded by a bunch of screaming tourists holding up fluorescent posters.
This morning the bull pin is packed with Parrot Heads waiting to see Jimmy Buffet.
Matt informs the viewing audience that fans have spent the night in the plaza to see Buffet perform this morning.
The camera swoops along the crowd and in the front row of the bull pin, chewing gum, is the Black man (!) surrounded by a bunch of folks with tropical attire and screaming their heads off.
I'm obsessed. And would like to know his story. He's been doing it for at least two years. When did he start doing this? Is he an honorary bull pin member? VIP status. Has he gotten to know the crew?? Does his family know he's addicted to the Today Show bull pin?? Why doesn't he bring anybody with him?? Does he tape every episode?? Has he created a reel of his appearances?? Why does he keep coming back??
He reminds me of that Black woman on Showtime at the Apollo who always sat in the front row and molested Johnny Gill, Keith Sweat, Al B. Sure or Guy during their performances. Every Saturday night you could count on this woman rubbing the legs of various singers as they stood in front of her on stage dry humping the air.
It would be amazing if this man quietly went to the Today Show every morning and simply went to work afterwards.
In this day of celebrity and 15 minutes of fame, it's incredible that this man quietly stands in the bull pin and doesn't hold up a sign that reads: I've been coming here for X amount of years rain, sleet, or snow! I love you Matt!!!
I haven't googled him. Maybe he's gotten press and I'm just late.
Crazy. Okay, I have to go pick up my laundry.

Putting the ball in the hole
The phoenix Suns are so frickin' good.
I'm watching game one. When they're hot, those mofos are hot.
I was worried about them going up against the Mavericks. That guerilla man Dirk Nowitzki is hard to get around. They crushed the Spurs because of it. But the Suns get the ball and run. Guerilla man cain't keep up.
So good.

Show don't tell
My weekend turned out to be pretty damn good.
I'll have to see some ID before I can tell you the good parts. . .

Storm's a'brewin'
I'm in a midtown office on the 40th floor. There's a huge window with a remarkable view of the city. I can see the Statue of Liberty in the distance.
I just realized this a few minutes ago. As the fog cleared and thunder clouds slowly took its place, I catch a view of the statue.
WARNING:~Hippie Moment Approaching~
So, then I think:
Whoa.
I'm on 49th&6th, sitting in a cramped room, surrounded by boxes
and I can see the Statue of Liberty.
I'm looking past downtown NYC and straight at that statue.
Past the millions of people breathing, walking, working, living, dying on the island of Manhattan.
And this makes me realize we are so small and so insignificant in relation to the universe, nature, destiny.
This makes me realize how sad and absurd politics, wars, hate, and ignorance are. This makes me wonder how people can kill, fight, destroy the world around them.
This makes me feel like I'm not doing enough.
I've had these realizations/feelings before but for some reason I had to blog this particular moment.

Purrrrr-tee
I just saw the new macbook. The black one is so pretty. Another thing to add to the wish list. . .
I had a very peculiar / annoying experience today. It will forever remain nameless/faceless/generalized in blog land but know that I was very pissed.
The month of May is proving to be (adjective / noun pending).
I'm watching the Jersey / Miami game. It appears as if New Jersey may lose the series and go home.
I predict my beloved Steve Nash and company will suffer the same fate.
Playwright bad-ass David Lindsay-Abaire scored a Tony nomination for his play Rabbit Hole.
And . . . that's it for now.

Who's the Pretty Girl in the Mirror There?
I've been in the throes of self-reflection.
Can you believe we're sitting in the middle of May 2006?
I feel like I just passed out on my friend's bed in Bklyn on New Years Day.
Crazy.
Sidenote: Change is good.

(My titles are getting less creative)
I'm watching Fast Times at Ridgemont High. This movie always shocks me because Jennifer Jason Leigh & Phoebe Cates actually look like they're 15. Coincidently, I catch this movie after reading this essay. The abortion story line in Ridgemont prevents it from being a pure teen sex comedy, but the masturbation scene definitely makes it a contender.
On a less sketchy note: I'm taking a break from the play rewrites to write the outline & first draft of the screenplay.
My horoscope said to me:
I'll buy that.
My boy Steve Nash pulled in a win against the Clippers tonight. . .

My horoscope said to me:
Bask in the sunshine of this day, dear Sagittarius. Focus on the positive aspects of your life and work to expand these energies. There is a great deal of opportunity open to you at this time. The key to honing this in is to stay close to the things that truly bring you the most happiness. The details will work themselves out with almost no effort. Have faith that you will succeed and you will.
I'll buy that.

i spruced up my site.
one of my favorite writers reviewed ghostface killah's new album.
kobe b. choked on a fat one last night.
and this white boy steve nash is so cute. i love it when he does the signature white gurl move (tuck long hair behind the ears) every time he sets up to defend. i don't know if the Suns can win it all, but I think they'll be my favorite team.
thank God for the comedic mavericks of Comedy Central. John, Dave, and Steven are my heroes.
i don't know the full story, but didn't the white house know what they were getting into when they invited Colbert???
and for some reason i'm not surprised kansas didn't have a minimum marriage age.

Potluck
I'm still reeling from the reading. I had a great cast.
They were everything I want in actors: quick, willing to "go there", and smart.
I had a great director who was chill the entire time.
And almost all the people I wanted to share the moment with were able to make it.
I intended to take pictures of the rehearsal to post on the site, but I got distracted and/or side tracked by the fierce talent in front of me. Next time, huh?
The play itself: not so hot.
It's still a sleepy newborn who needs to be fed every four hours and have its ass wiped.
BUT
I was able to hear it and find out what I like and what I need to rewrite.
I still love my baby.
~tease~Big projects/opportunities are on the horizon, but I'm still working out the details so I can't talk about it. ~tease~
motto:keep pushin'

Plop
I'm extremely happy to report that I have finished the new play.
I haven't slept.
I'll write more soon.
I just wanted to document the time and find a way to capture the moment.
Thank you guardian angels.
Thank you universe.
Thank you. Thank you.
Now I will sleep.
